Locally led organisations in East Africa can apply for the 2027 Localisation Development Accelerator (LDA), a free nine-month programme designed to strengthen organisational capacity, improve leadership and build long-term sustainability.

The initiative, organised by MAMA HOPE, targets community-rooted organisations seeking to improve their internal systems, refine their strategies and expand their ability to deliver lasting impact.

Rather than providing a standard cash grant, the accelerator focuses on institutional development through practical learning, mentorship, peer exchange and support for strengthening organisational systems.

Benefits of the Localization Development Accelerator 2027

Selected organisations will participate in a structured development programme designed to address operational challenges and strengthen their foundations.

Key benefits include:

  • Organisational development: Practical learning to improve internal structures, processes and systems.
  • Mentorship: Guidance to support strategic planning, leadership and institutional growth.
  • Peer learning: Opportunities to exchange experiences and ideas with other locally led organisations across East Africa.
  • Improved sustainability: Support to identify organisational gaps and develop strategies for long-term effectiveness.
  • Free participation: Eligible organisations can participate without paying programme fees.

The accelerator is particularly relevant to smaller community-based organisations that have strong local connections but need additional support to strengthen their institutional capacity.

Eligibility Requirements

The programme is open to locally led organisations based in the following East African countries:

  • Kenya
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda
  • Rwanda

Applicants must have an annual operating budget of less than US$100,000 and demonstrate strong relationships with the communities they serve.

Organisations must also satisfy the programme’s definition of locally led and be able to commit approximately two to four hours per week throughout the nine-month programme.

The opportunity is intended for organisations rather than individuals applying solely in a personal capacity.

Application Deadline and Important Dates

The application deadline is November 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. East Africa Time (EAT).

According to published programme information, applications will be reviewed in November and December 2026, interviews for shortlisted organisations are expected in January 2027, and the successful cohort is scheduled to be confirmed in February 2027.

How to Apply

Eligible organisations should review the programme requirements and prepare information about their mission, local leadership, community relationships, annual operating budget and organisational development priorities.
