Timi Dakolo Tells Nigerians To Stop Enduring Abuse In The Name Of Love

Popular Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has warned people against enduring abuse in the name of love, saying suffering is not proof of genuine affection or commitment.
The singer shared the message in a post on his X account, urging people to recognise the difference between patience in a relationship and tolerating destructive behaviour.
Dakolo, a father of 3, cautioned against excusing abuse as a character flaw or believing that love requires someone to endure persistent pain and mistreatment.
“Dear anybody, suffering is not proof of love. The amount of abuse you can take is not what patience is all about. It is not your job to fix broken people. Destructive tendencies are not character flaws. Even a trained therapist gives up sometimes,” he wrote.
The singer’s message also challenged the idea that people must remain in harmful relationships to help their partners change, stressing that individuals are not solely responsible for repairing another person’s destructive behaviour.
His remarks highlight the importance of recognising unhealthy relationship patterns and understanding that patience does not mean accepting abuse.
Dakolo has previously spoken about personal well-being and relationship challenges. In other public comments, he has also encouraged men to rest when necessary and speak openly about their struggles rather than suffer in silence.
His latest message adds to ongoing conversations about emotional well-being, relationship boundaries and the need to distinguish genuine love from harmful attachment.
