The United States Consul General in Lagos, Brandon Hudspeth, has hosted Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the American and Nigerian creative industries.
The US Mission in Nigeria disclosed this in a post on its official Instagram account, saying the meeting at the US Consulate General in Lagos focused on turning cultural ties between the 2 countries into economic opportunities.
According to the mission, Hudspeth and Burna Boy explored ways to strengthen commercial relationships between American and Nigerian recording studios, record labels and streaming platforms.
The discussions also covered intellectual property protection, exchanges between artists and industry professionals, and investment in creative infrastructure.
The US Mission said the proposed areas of collaboration were aimed at creating economic opportunities by building on the cultural connections between Nigeria and the United States.
The engagement highlights the growing role of music and entertainment in strengthening commercial ties between both countries, particularly through partnerships that support artists, businesses and other players in the creative economy.
Stronger collaboration could also create opportunities for knowledge sharing, investment and improved protection of creative works, while helping artists and industry professionals access broader markets.
