Sagbokoji Link Bridge Collapses In Lagos, Students Injured Among Others
By Sherif Salau
A section of the Sagbokoji Link Bridge in Lagos has collapsed, leaving several people injured, including students who were among those affected by the incident.
Emergency responders were deployed to the scene shortly after the structure gave way. Details emerging from the site indicate that the collapse disrupted movement in the area and caused panic among residents and passers-by. Students who were in the vicinity at the time sustained injuries and were among those taken for medical attention.
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Fire and Rescue Service, and other security agencies moved quickly to secure the location, assist the injured and assess the extent of the structural failure. Preliminary accounts suggest the bridge had shown signs of distress prior to the collapse, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
Authorities have urged members of the public to avoid the immediate vicinity of the collapsed section while recovery and assessment operations continue. Further updates are expected as engineers examine the site and the full number of casualties is confirmed.
The collapse underscores the ongoing challenges of maintaining ageing bridges and walkways in a rapidly expanding city where heavy traffic, environmental pressure and deferred maintenance often combine to place public safety at risk.
