LA Olympics Qualifier: Comoros Coach Abdallah Unfazed By Defeat To Nigeria
By Saheed Afolabi
Comoros women’s national team coach, Youssef Abdallah, has acknowledged the quality of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, insisting that his team’s primary objective in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers is to gain experience and improve.
Comoros suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in the first leg of their second-round qualifying fixture at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, on Friday.
Goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu in the second half handed the Super Falcons victory, and an advantage ahead of the return leg.
Despite the defeat, Abdallah said his players understood the magnitude of the challenge before them, having faced one of Africa’s most successful women’s football teams.
“We knew our opponent and understood that we were facing a very, very strong team,” Abdallah said.
“As I said at the beginning, during the first press conference, we came here primarily to grow and improve.”
Comoros advanced to the second round after recording a commanding 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan in the opening round of the African qualifiers.
The result leaves Comoros with a two-goal deficit to overcome in the return fixture as they seek to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games alive.
The second leg will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne on Tuesday, with the aggregate winner advancing to the third round to face Morocco.
