Agege Traditional Rulers Seek Political Reconciliation Among Politicians

Traditional rulers in Agege and Orile-Agege have appealed to former Agege Local Government chairman, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi, and Alhaji Azeez Yusuf to reconsider their defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling for unity and political reconciliation in the interest of the community.
The monarchs’ intervention underscores the importance they attach to peaceful political relationships, cooperation and sustained development in Agege and its environs. They urged the political leaders to reflect on the appeal and explore common ground, stressing the value of dialogue and unity in strengthening relationships across the community.
The appeal was made on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the palace of the Oba of Agege, where community leaders, chiefs, and party elders gathered to address lingering political divisions that have strained relationships in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional council, the Oba of Agege stressed that the time had come for healing and unity. “Agege has always been known for its strong political culture and progressive values,” he said. “We cannot afford to allow personal differences or past disagreements to continue dividing our people. We urge our sons, Hon. Egunjobi and Alhaji Yusuf, to come back home to the APC so that we can work together for the development of our community.”
The traditional rulers expressed concern that prolonged political friction could weaken the local structure of the party and slow down developmental efforts in Agege. They noted that both men had previously contributed significantly to the growth of the APC in the area and still command considerable respect among residents.
Party elders present at the meeting echoed the call, describing the traditional rulers’ intervention as timely. One elder, who preferred not to be named, said the community was tired of internal conflicts and wanted leaders to prioritise the interests of the people above personal ambition.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to set up a reconciliation committee that would reach out to the two political figures and facilitate dialogue. The traditional rulers also appealed to all parties involved to approach the process with open minds and a genuine commitment to peace.
Residents who spoke after the gathering welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the intervention of the traditional institution would help restore unity within the APC in Agege ahead of future political engagements.
