Obasa’s Allies Withdraw From Lagos Assembly Race Under APM
Two political associates of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi and Oladapo Azeez Yusuf, popularly known as Nino, have reportedly withdrawn from the race for the Lagos State House of Assembly under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The development comes amid reports that the two politicians were recently expelled from the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising fresh questions about the political implications of their decision to seek the Assembly seats on another platform.
Sources familiar with the development said the decision to withdraw followed consultations within their political camp, amid concerns that the continued APM candidacy could further complicate their relationship with the APC leadership.
Egunjobi and Yusuf had reportedly emerged as prominent figures in the political camp associated with Obasa after leaving the APC platform.
Their withdrawal is expected to generate further discussion within Lagos political circles, particularly over the future of the two politicians and the implications of the development for Obasa’s political network.
Yusuf, popularly known as Nino, has attracted considerable grassroots support through his political activities and philanthropic engagements. His withdrawal is therefore likely to be closely watched by supporters and political observers in his constituency.
The latest development also comes against the backdrop of heightened political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party structures and political alliances increasingly coming under scrutiny.
However, claims that Obasa personally directed the two politicians to withdraw from the APM race, as well as suggestions that the development has damaged his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC leaders, could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
The development has nonetheless fuelled fresh speculation about the direction of Obasa’s political camp as the 2027 elections approach.
