AFCON 2027 Race: Chelle Demands Strong Mentality As Super Eagles Eyes Victory Against Guinea-Bissau

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has warned his side to prepare for a turbulent game against Guinea-Bissau, in Tuesday’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the 24 de Setembro Stadium in Alto Bandim, Bissau.

The Super Eagles came out from a brilliant start in the qualifier where they defeated Madagascar 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

The Super Eagles enter the fixture focused on maintaining control of their qualifying campaign, but Chelle made it clear that taking their opposition lightly would be a costly mistake because Guinea-Bissau carry serious momentum into the clash following an impressive away win against Tanzania on Friday, giving them added belief as they prepare to host the three-time African champions on home turf.

Addressing reporters at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Chelle acknowledged the tactical growth and threat posed by the hosts.

“We respect them because they are a strong team; I have followed their progress over the years. They also won away in Tanzania on Friday and will be confident playing on home ground tomorrow,” Chelle said.

Despite the unfamiliar difficult  terrain awaiting his team, Chelle insists the team’s aim coming for the game can’t be negotiated while he stood form on Nigeria’s mandate.

“Our objective is to take the three points, and to do that, we must approach the game with a strong mentality. We have to be at our best to earn victory.”
