Residents of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area have begun to feel the impact of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, following the prompt evacuation of properly packaged waste from streets and communities across the area.
The exercise, which was monitored on Saturday by the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Claudia Sanwo-Olu, provided relief to residents as LAWMA trucks moved in to evacuate waste packaged by households awaiting collection by Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu visited Oluyeye Street, Olowora Street and Mankinde Street, where she interacted with residents and inspected the level of compliance with the sanitation exercise.
The First Lady commended residents for taking responsibility for their surroundings by properly packaging their waste and keeping their streets clean pending evacuation.
She urged them to sustain the practice beyond the monthly sanitation exercise, stressing the importance of proper waste disposal in maintaining a healthy and liveable community.
Residents who witnessed the evacuation expressed appreciation for the exercise, saying the prompt removal of waste would help prevent the accumulation of refuse, unpleasant odours and other environmental challenges associated with poor waste management.
The exercise also highlighted the role of local leadership in sustaining environmental cleanliness, with Dr. Sanwo-Olu commending the Executive Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof-Oloyede, for his commitment to sanitation and the wellbeing of residents.
She noted that responsible leadership is reflected in the cleanliness and orderly appearance of communities.
Receiving the First Lady during the monitoring exercise were the Vice Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Hon. Modupe Badmus-Aregbe, and the wife of the Executive Chairman, Chief Mrs. Fadekemi Almaroof-Oloyede.
The sanitation exercise is expected to further encourage residents to adopt proper waste disposal habits and maintain cleaner surroundings as part of efforts to make Oshodi-Isolo a healthier and more liveable local government area.
