Okonkwo Pins Future On Super Eagles Glory

Nigeria goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has set his sights on winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and compete at the World Cup, describing the dual targets as among his biggest goals in football.

Okonkwo made his debut for Nigeria in the 2-0 win against Zimbabwe at the Unity Cup in May 2026.

The former Arsenal academy goalkeeper started and played the full 90 minutes under head coach Éric Chelle. He kept a clean sheet at the The Valley stadium in London.

The Charlton Athletic shot-stopper, currently in camp with the national team, spoke of his determination to grow within the squad while keeping his long-term vision firmly in focus.

“I want to win the AFCON and compete at the World Cup. That’s one of my biggest ambitions as a footballer,” Okonkwo said.

Okonkwo said he’s open to gaining insightful experience in camp while prioritizing career development.

“At the moment, it’s still early. I want to learn from everyone and learn new things. The previous camp was good for me.”

The goalkeeper has set out his vision and aim with the Super Eagles and focusing on personal improvement to strengthen his commitment to the national team.

“I want to take things in my stride, keep learning, keep improving, and hopefully one day contribute positively to the Super Eagles.”

Okonkwo faces stiff competition for the number one spot in the Super Eagles from Stanley Nwabali who just returned to the team after missing the Unity Cup in London and also Udinese shot stopper, Maduka Okoye.
