Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund – Apply Now
The Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund (CIEIF) has opened applications for its sixth grant round, offering three grants of US$75,000 each.
This grant is meant to support innovative climate intervention projects approaching small-scale field testing.
The funding is designed to help researchers and project teams assess the potential environmental and wider impacts of emerging climate intervention technologies before or during field trials.
According to CIEIF, the grants will specifically support environmental impact assessments (EIA), predictive impact modelling and stakeholder engagement related to proposed climate intervention field tests. The next application deadline is December 1, 2026.
What the CIEIF Grant Supports
The fund focuses on the independent assessment of innovative technologies intended to address climate change or its major effects.
Applicants can seek funding for activities including:
- Environmental impact assessments of proposed field tests;
- Predictive modelling of potential environmental and other impacts;
- Engagement with potentially affected communities and stakeholders;
- Assessment of technical, regulatory, permitting and related issues; and
- Other closely associated work needed to responsibly evaluate a proposed climate intervention.
CIEIF does not primarily fund the development or implementation of the climate intervention itself. Instead, its grants are intended to provide the environmental and stakeholder due diligence needed around small-scale field testing.
Who Can Apply?
The opportunity is open internationally to qualified investigators and project teams working on innovative climate intervention technologies.
Projects should be sufficiently developed to be approaching a small-scale field test and should demonstrate potential for meaningful climate benefits if successfully scaled.
CIEIF’s guidelines indicate that priority is given to projects where the proposed grant will directly support at least one of its three core areas: environmental impact assessment, predictive impact modelling or stakeholder engagement. Applications that do not focus on one of these areas are unlikely to be considered.
Grant Amount
Three successful applicants will receive US$75,000 each.
Following initial project-scoping discussions, the first third of the grant is paid upfront, while the remaining funds are released according to negotiated project benchmarks. CIEIF also indicates that repeat annual funding may be possible.
Application Requirements
There is no standard application form. Applicants are expected to submit a written grant request in English, not exceeding 20 single-spaced pages, excluding supplementary materials such as biosketches and key scientific publications.
The application should provide information about the proposed field test, personnel involved, previous research, technical readiness, required permits, potential environmental impacts, scalability and how the US$75,000 would be used.
Applicants should also provide information on other funding sources and relevant insurance arrangements. CIEIF says applicants should be prepared to publish their results in a peer-reviewed journal or as a publicly available report subject to independent peer review.
