Meiran Students SmartFarm Innovation Clinch Top Prize Of Africa Challenge

Lagos State Model Senior College, Meiran students have claimed the top prize at the Kids Innovation Africa Challenge among Lagos Public Schools.

The trio of Fanika Faith, Giwa Olaosebikan and Olaoye Rhoda emerged overall best among Lagos State public schools and First Runner-Up at the Kids Innovation Africa Challenge.

The competition which was put together by Destiny Trust International and held at Landmark Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos, brought together more than 1,500 children, partners, mentors and judges from across the country.

The participants were challenged to develop practical solutions to pressing issues in education, environmental sustainability and sustainable food production.

Representing their school, the Meiran trio presented “SmartFarm,” an integrated agricultural system that uses sensor technology to increase food production, safeguard farmers and improve modern farming practices.

The students elevated their entry by incorporating seven advanced robotic designs, demonstrating both technical skill and creative problem-solving.

Their project earned the school the top position among all Lagos public schools and the overall First Runner-Up award at the continental challenge.

Speaking after the announcement, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, congratulated the Principal, Mr. Ajayi Temitope, project coach Mr. Moses Adewale, and the three student innovators.

She hailed their creativity, teamwork and commitment to excellence, urging them to remain focused and aim even higher in future competitions.
