Lagos CP Assures Residents of Security Before, During 2027 Elections

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Lagos State Police Command has assured residents that it is fully prepared to protect lives and property before, during and after the elections.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, gave the assurance on Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos.

Tijani, who spoke with newsmen after the meeting, said there was no reason for residents to panic over their safety as the electioneering period approaches.

According to him, the movement of people that usually comes with political campaigns, rallies and other electoral activities makes adequate security particularly important.

“Ensuring the safety of people is very paramount to us.

“The electioneering that we are entering into will entail the movement of people from one place to another, and we need to secure all the people that will be involved in the election,” he said.

The police commissioner said the command had put necessary measures in place to ensure that residents can go about their daily activities without fear throughout the electoral period.

“I can assure you there is no cause for alarm before, during and after the election. We are fully prepared for it,” Tijani said.

He, however, stressed that the police cannot achieve a peaceful election without the cooperation of residents and other stakeholders.

Tijani urged Lagosians to provide the police with timely and useful information about suspicious activities in their communities, saying such cooperation would help security agencies identify threats before they escalate.

“We urge residents to collaborate with us so as to have a very robust security system,” he said.

The CP also advised residents to know the people living around them and report individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities to the appropriate authorities.

He expressed particular concern over the involvement of young people in crime, cultism, hooliganism and other forms of criminality, urging parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to take greater responsibility for guiding youths.

Tijani also called on political and community stakeholders to work closely with the Lagos State Police Command to prevent political violence and other criminal activities before, during and after the elections.

He said the command would continue to engage communities, identify emerging security challenges and develop strategies to address them.

While urging residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding and vigilant, the commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring the free movement of people throughout the electoral period.

For many Lagos residents, the coming election season will mean increased political activity, rallies, campaigns and movement across the state. The police assurance is therefore aimed at giving residents confidence that these activities can take place without turning the state’s streets and communities into flashpoints for violence.
