Wande Coal: Don Jazzy and I Were Two Talented People Working Together

Nigerian singer Wande Coal has said his success in the music industry cannot be attributed solely to his former record label boss, Don Jazzy.

The singer said God was responsible for his success, while describing his relationship with Don Jazzy as a partnership between two talented people working together.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Wande Coal said he gave all the credit to God for his achievements.

> “God is the reason for my success. I give all the credits to him because he was the one who brought me out and made me successful,” he said.

Wande Coal also addressed the popular narrative that Don Jazzy was solely responsible for discovering and making him successful.

“Some people say it was Don Jazzy that brought me out but I feel like it was just two talented people working together to achieve success. So, it’s not by one man. It’s God,” he added.

Wande Coal was discovered by Don Jazzy and D’banj in 2006 after performing at a campus event at the University of Lagos.

He was signed to their Mo’ Hits record label shortly after the encounter and gained widespread recognition after featuring on several tracks on the label’s 2007 compilation album, Curriculum Vitae.

He further established himself with his debut album, Mushin 2 Mo’Hits, released in 2009.

Following the split between Don Jazzy and D’banj in 2012, Wande Coal joined Don Jazzy’s new label, Mavin Records.

He left Mavin Records in 2013 and subsequently founded his own record label, Black Diamond Entertainment.
