Young Nigerians interested in public policy, governance, research, advocacy and leadership can now apply for the third cohort of the Policy Advocacy and Leadership (PAL) Fellowship.

This is a development programme designed to prepare emerging leaders to influence policy and drive positive change.

The fellowship is the flagship policy leadership programme of CYPA Africa, with Cohort 3 targeting young professionals from Nigeria’s 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The programme seeks to strengthen the ability of young Nigerians to understand complex public issues, conduct policy research, develop practical solutions and engage decision-makers on issues affecting their communities.

Who Can Apply?

The opportunity is open to applicants who meet the following requirements:

  • Be 18 to 35 years old.
  • Be a resident of any of Nigeria’s 19 Northern states or the FCT.
  • Hold a first degree in any discipline.
  • Have an interest in public policy, governance, politics, research, advocacy, leadership or development.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to creating positive change in their communities.
  • Be willing to participate fully in the fellowship, including virtual sessions, assignments and the residential programme.

What the Fellowship Offers

The PAL Fellowship is structured around six key areas: policy, research, strategy, advocacy, leadership and ideas.

Participants will receive an intensive learning experience involving engagement with policymakers, academics, legislators, development practitioners and governance experts.

A major component of the programme is the development of an evidence-based policy brief. Fellows will identify a pressing issue in their state or community, research the problem and develop practical recommendations that can contribute to policy discussions and reform.

Previous PAL fellows have gone on to work in government institutions, support policymakers, join policy and technology organisations and establish initiatives addressing social and governance challenges.

Residential Bootcamp in Jos

The 2026 fellowship is scheduled to run from September to December 2026, combining online learning with a residential policy bootcamp in Jos, Plateau State.

The residential component will feature policy simulations, debates, policy laboratories, institutional visits and leadership sessions with policymakers and governance institutions.

Only 24 fellows will be selected through a competitive, merit-based process, with consideration given to diversity, gender balance and the inclusion of underrepresented groups.

For the residential programme, accommodation and feeding will be provided, while selected fellows will be responsible for their transportation to and from Jos.

Application Deadline

The deadline for applications is August 24, 2026.

Young professionals who want to build careers in policy, governance, research, advocacy and public leadership are encouraged to apply before the deadline.

The fellowship could provide participants with practical policy skills, professional networks and exposure that can strengthen their future careers in government, development, civil society and related fields.
