St Janet Story Pulls Crowd to Echonews
A recent story published by Echonews on the late Nigerian singer St Janet has attracted significant audience attention, emerging as one of the platform’s top-performing stories by net follows.
Analytics from the Echonews platform show that the story, titled “Who was Saint Janet? ‘The Mam…”, generated 19 net follows, placing it among the leading content that attracted new followers to the platform.
The performance is particularly significant because the St Janet story was driven overwhelmingly by audiences who discovered it through platform recommendations rather than existing followers.
According to the analytics, 85 per cent of the views came through “Suggested” content, while 6 per cent came from the Followers Feed, 5 per cent from Search and 4 per cent from other sources.
The figures suggest that the story successfully travelled beyond Echonews’ existing audience, with the platform’s recommendation system exposing it to a much wider pool of readers and viewers.
The St Janet story was the second-highest content by net follows among the posts displayed in the analytics, trailing only the story on actress Lizzy Anjorin, which recorded 20 net follows.
The result provides an important insight into the kind of human-interest content capable of expanding Echonews’ audience.
Unlike conventional political and hard-news stories, the St Janet report tapped into public curiosity about the life and legacy of the late singer, prompting people who may not have previously followed Echonews to engage with the platform.
The fact that 85 per cent of the traffic came from Suggested content also highlights the importance of producing compelling headlines, visual content and stories with strong audience interest, as such content can be picked up and recommended to users beyond the publication’s established followers.
For Echonews, the performance of the St Janet story demonstrates that well-packaged human-interest, entertainment and personality-driven stories can serve as powerful audience-growth tools, alongside the newspaper’s traditional political, community and public-interest reporting.
The message from the analytics is clear: a compelling story does not only attract readers—it can convert new readers into followers.
