1,000 Alimosho Residents Enrol in Ilera Eko Health Scheme

No fewer than 1,000 residents of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State have been enrolled in the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme as the council marked the first anniversary of the administration of its chairman, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson.

The initiative, according to the council, is aimed at expanding access to affordable healthcare for residents, particularly vulnerable groups who may struggle to meet the cost of medical treatment.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony, Akinpelu said the enrolment was part of his administration’s commitment to making the welfare and wellbeing of residents a priority.

He said the 1,000 beneficiaries were drawn from the seven political wards in the local government and included elderly residents, market men and women, artisans, youths, persons living with disabilities, members of Community Development Associations and other vulnerable groups.

The chairman described the initiative as more than a registration exercise, saying it was designed to ensure that financial difficulties did not prevent residents from accessing quality healthcare.

He urged the beneficiaries to make full use of the scheme and encouraged other residents to embrace health insurance, describing good health as essential to the wellbeing of families and the development of communities.

Akinpelu commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s investment in healthcare and appreciated the Lagos State Health Management Agency, LASHMA, for partnering with the council to make the enrolment possible.

The chairman also presented official vehicles to members of the Alimosho Local Government Legislative Council during the event.

He said the vehicles were provided to strengthen the legislators’ capacity to carry out their oversight responsibilities and other official duties.

Akinpelu urged the legislators to use the vehicles for legislative assignments and stressed the importance of a functional legislature in delivering effective governance at the grassroots.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, integrity and people-centred governance, promising to sustain the implementation of programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents and bringing development closer to the people.

The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Francis Adebisi; members of the council management team; legislators; traditional rulers; political and community leaders; representatives of LASHMA and residents.

Among the traditional rulers present were Oba Ahmed Laka Orelope, Elegbeda of Egbeda Kingdom; Oba Rafiu Adebowale, Alaye of Orisunbare; and Oba Nasiru Ogunronbi Babatunde, Onishasha of Shasha Kingdom.
