WAFCON 2026: Madugu Concerned By Falcons Conceded Goals

Nigeria head coach, Justin Madugu is concerned with the number of goals that the team have conceded despite scoring the highest number of goals at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons will take on Cameroon at the Stade Larbi Zaouli Casablanca (In the West Africa derby) as both sides chase a semifinal place and also qualification to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Madugu admitted though the team conceded a high number of goals in the group stage but he’s confident those areas have been worked on ahead of the clash against the Indomitable Lioness.
“Yes, we conceded in the group stage, but that is something we are intentionally working on as we move towards the knockout stage. Although we conceded, we scored more goals. It is still positive for us,” Madugu said at the Prematch Press Conference in Casablanca.
He said both teams have a rich history of records playing against each other which will definitely attract their best.
“Nigeria and Cameroon have both come a long way. We know them and they also know us. Games like this between the two teams always bring out the best.”
Madugu however knows what’s at stake given the fact that, qualifying for the World Cup is the priority which must be achieved before setting their sights on defending their title.
“The team knows what is at stake facing Cameroon in the quarter-finals, which is the World Cup ticket. Once we get that secured, we will know that it is about defending the continental crown.”
Falcons and the Indomitable Lioness have met 13 time in the WAFCON while Nigeria have nine wins, Cameroon have a win while three draws was recorded by both sides.
