Gov. Umo Eno to Deliver Yoruba Tennis Club’s Centenary Lecture on Democracy, Good Governance

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, will on Thursday deliver the prestigious Centenary Lecture of the Yoruba Tennis Club as part of activities marking the club’s 100th anniversary.
The lecture, themed “Democracy and the Imperative of Good Governance: Renewing Hope in Challenging Times,” is scheduled to hold on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Greetings Hall of the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The landmark event will be held under the distinguished patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Patron of the Yoruba Tennis Club; Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, the Club’s Vice Patron; and Alhaji Dr. Femi Okunnu, CON, SAN, Chairman of the Club’s Board of Trustees.
As Guest Speaker, Governor Eno is expected to deliver a keynote address examining the role of democratic leadership, accountable governance and effective public policy in addressing Nigeria’s contemporary socio-economic challenges.
The governor is also expected to highlight the achievements of the Akwa Ibom State Government under the ARISE Agenda, showcasing key milestones recorded in infrastructure development, economic growth, social welfare, education, healthcare and inclusive governance over the past three years.
The Centenary Lecture is one of the flagship events commemorating the Yoruba Tennis Club’s 100 years of promoting leadership, excellence, fellowship, tradition and national development.
The event is expected to attract an array of eminent personalities, including government officials, business leaders, academics, diplomats, traditional rulers, members of the legal profession and civil society organisations, who will deliberate on the future of democracy, leadership and nation-building in Nigeria.
Chairman of the Yoruba Tennis Club and the Centenary Planning Committee, Bro. Engr. Olawunmi Gasper, said Governor Eno was selected as the guest lecturer in recognition of his administration’s developmental achievements and commitment to purposeful leadership.
According to him, the governor’s governance model has attracted national attention and presents valuable lessons on effective leadership, inclusive development and democratic governance.
He noted that the lecture would provide a platform for meaningful conversations on strengthening Nigeria’s democracy while celebrating the club’s remarkable century-long contribution to national development.
The Akwa Ibom State Government expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Yoruba Tennis Club for inviting Governor Eno to deliver the historic lecture, describing the invitation as a recognition of the administration’s commitment to good governance, sustainable development and democratic ideals.
The government also encouraged Akwa Ibom indigenes, friends of the state and well-wishers, particularly those resident in Lagos and neighbouring communities, to attend the event in support of the governor.
It further congratulated the Yoruba Tennis Club on attaining its centenary milestone, wishing the institution continued success as it begins its second century of promoting excellence, unity, leadership and service to humanity.
