Badagry Residents Protest Estimated Billing, Demand Meters Over Poor Power Supply

BADAGRY — Residents of Badagry staged a protest ahead of a town hall meeting with the management of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), decrying persistent power outages and what they described as excessive estimated electricity bills.

The protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, accused the electricity distribution company of imposing high monthly charges despite providing little or no electricity to their communities.

They called for an immediate end to estimated billing and urged EKEDC to accelerate the rollout of prepaid meters to ensure consumers pay only for the electricity they actually use.

Community leaders said years of erratic power supply and rising electricity charges had pushed residents to the brink, stressing that the protest reflected widespread frustration over the poor quality of service.

According to them, residents are no longer willing to pay what they described as “premium rates for darkness” and expect concrete commitments from EKEDC during the town hall meeting.

The protest comes amid growing public concern over electricity distribution and estimated billing in several parts of Lagos, with consumers increasingly demanding improved service delivery, transparent billing practices and universal access to prepaid meters.
