FG Targets 1.56 Million New Meters Before December

Relief may finally be on the way for millions of Nigerians frustrated by estimated electricity bills.

The Federal Government says it has resolved the months-long dispute that stalled meter supply and installation across the country.

With that hurdle cleared, authorities are now pushing an aggressive rollout plan: 1.56 million meters to be installed nationwide before December 31, 2025.

The Minister of Power stated that the agreement brings together the FG, Distribution Companies, and local meter manufacturers. The focus is to speed up production, close supply gaps, and get meters into homes and businesses faster.

For years, consumers have complained about paying for darkness, getting huge “estimated bills” for power they never used. The mass metering plan is designed to end that cycle.

Officials say beyond helping consumers, the 1.56m meters will also improve revenue collection for DisCos and give the power sector the data it needs to plan better.

The FG insists this is not just another announcement. Teams will be monitored monthly to ensure the year-end target is met.

If delivered, it would be one of the biggest single-year meter deployments in Nigeria’s history.
