Lagos CP Orders Arrest of Impostors Wearing Police Uniforms
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Fatai Tijani, has said the command will intensify enforcement against security personnel found operating commercial vehicles while in uniform, describing the practice as damaging to the image and professionalism of security agencies.
Speaking on Friday at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Tijani said the police would strengthen enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend offenders.
He, however, clarified that many individuals seen engaging in commercial transport while wearing security uniforms are not serving police officers.
“We have always maintained that security personnel should not operate commercial vehicles while in uniform. It is not good for the image of the security services, and we will continue to enforce the directive against the practice,” he said.
According to the commissioner, many of the individuals involved are dismissed officers or persons illegally wearing police uniforms to impersonate security personnel and deceive members of the public.
“The majority of them are not police personnel. Many are dismissed officers or individuals unlawfully wearing police uniforms to impersonate security personnel and deceive members of the public,” Tijani added.
The police commissioner said the command would issue fresh directives to Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the state to arrest anyone found illegally wearing police uniforms or violating the directive against operating commercial vehicles in uniform.
He also urged Lagos residents to report suspected impersonators and offenders to the police, assuring the public that all reports would be promptly investigated.
