FG unveils seven indigenous herbal medicines for cancer, hepatitis B

The Federal Government has unveiled seven indigenous herbal medicine formulations developed from local plants for the treatment and management of prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, hepatitis B, peptic ulcer disease, hypertension and high cholesterol.
The products were presented on Tuesday during the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh’s working visit to the headquarters of the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency in Lagos.
According to the ministry, the herbal formulations were developed by the NNMDA using indigenous botanical resources as part of efforts to promote research into natural medicine and expand affordable healthcare options.
Speaking at the event, Udeh commended the agency for translating scientific research into practical healthcare solutions, saying the Federal Government remained committed to integrating research and innovation into the country’s healthcare system.
He added that the initiative is aimed at promoting homegrown healthcare solutions and reducing reliance on imported pharmaceuticals.
The government, however, did not state the regulatory status of the herbal formulations or whether they have completed all clinical evaluation processes required for widespread medical use.
