Tems Makes History as Executive Music Producer for Children of Blood and Bone Soundtrack
Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Tems has reached another career milestone after being named Executive Music Producer and Curator for the official soundtrack of Paramount Pictures’ highly anticipated fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone.
The announcement was made by the film’s director, Gina Prince-Bythewood, during an exclusive trailer launch hosted by Lena Waithe at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City.
According to Prince-Bythewood, Tems becomes the first woman to serve as Executive Music Producer for a movie soundtrack of this scale, marking another groundbreaking achievement for the Nigerian star on the global stage.
The director revealed that Tems and fellow Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy played an important role in shaping the creative direction of the film long before production began.
She explained that she listened extensively to their music while writing the screenplay, making their involvement in the project a natural fit.
Tems’ hit single, Me & U, features prominently in the film’s official teaser, while her manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, confirmed that the singer recorded three brand-new original songs exclusively for the soundtrack.
Burna Boy also joins the production as Executive Music Consultant, helping to shape what the filmmakers describe as one of the most ambitious soundtracks ever created for an African-inspired fantasy film.
The soundtrack also features an impressive lineup of Nigerian stars, including Fireboy DML, BNXN and Ayra Starr.
Beyond lending her voice to the soundtrack, Ayra Starr also makes her Hollywood acting debut in the film, adding another milestone to her rapidly rising international career.
Speaking about the project, Prince-Bythewood described the soundtrack as an “epic, no-skips” body of work carefully crafted to reflect the themes of magic, identity, hope, oppression and purpose explored in Children of Blood and Bone, the bestselling novel by Tomi Adeyemi on which the movie is based.
The film boasts an impressive cast that includes Thuso Mbedu, Regina King, Lashana Lynch, Tosin Cole and Zackary Momoh.
Scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on January 15, 2027, Children of Blood and Bone is expected to serve as a major cultural bridge between African music, African storytelling and global cinema, while further cementing Tems’ status as one of Nigeria’s most influential creative exports.
