Davido, MC Oluomo Clash Online Over Osun NURTW Suspension

Afrobeats star Davido has stirred fresh controversy after taking a public swipe at Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, amid the ongoing dispute over the suspension of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun State.

The disagreement stems from Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive suspending NURTW operations across motor parks in the state following violent clashes involving rival transport union factions. The governor also ordered an immediate halt to the collection of transport levies and instructed security agencies to arrest anyone operating under the union’s name until peace and order are restored.

The move was swiftly rejected by the union’s leadership. Speaking during the inauguration of the Osun State executive council of the NURTW, MC Oluomo, through his deputy, Aliyu Issa Ore, argued that the state government lacked the constitutional authority to suspend the activities of a national labour union.

According to the union, the NURTW is a federally registered organisation that does not operate under the control of any state government, insisting that no governor has the legal powers to dissolve or suspend its operations.

Davido, who is both Governor Adeleke’s nephew and one of his most vocal political supporters, reacted on Instagram with a post mocking MC Oluomo’s communication skills.

The singer wrote: “MC Oluomo wey no fit compose sentence dey talk… Kudosuuuu.”

The remark quickly went viral, triggering intense reactions across social media, where supporters of both men exchanged opinions over the legality of the governor’s decision and Davido’s criticism.

While many of Adeleke’s supporters applauded the singer for standing behind the governor’s efforts to restore order in the state’s motor parks, others argued that Davido’s comments shifted attention away from the legal issues surrounding the dispute and turned it into a personal attack.

The online exchange has also drawn the attention of fellow entertainer Portable, who weighed into the debate with comments perceived as supportive of MC Oluomo while criticising Davido, further fuelling conversations on social media.

The controversy comes at a crucial political period in Osun State, where campaigns are intensifying ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Davido has played an increasingly visible role in Governor Adeleke’s re-election campaign, appearing at political events and using his social media platforms to rally support for his uncle.

As the political atmosphere heats up, the clash between Davido and MC Oluomo has added an entertainment twist to an issue that remains rooted in questions of security, governance and the legal authority of state governments over transport union activities.
