Lagos Trains 100 Residents in Household Chemical Production for Economic Empowerment
The Lagos State Government has trained 100 residents in the production of household chemical products as part of its 2026 Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme.
The initiative, organised by the Office of Rural Development through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), is aimed at equipping residents with practical entrepreneurial skills to enable them to establish sustainable businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Participants were trained in the production of household products including liquid soap, Izal disinfectant, balms and other domestic items during the programme held at the Eti-Osa Local Government Secretariat.
Speaking at the training, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, said the initiative reflected Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to reducing unemployment, promoting self-reliance and advancing the objectives of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda.
Agbaje said the Governor approved the decentralisation of the programme to ensure that residents across the five divisions of Lagos State have equal access to skills training and its economic benefits.
He noted that the initiative was designed to create wealth, encourage entrepreneurship and promote inclusive economic growth across the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for sustaining investments in human capital development through empowerment programmes.
She urged the beneficiaries to put the skills acquired to productive use by establishing businesses capable of generating income and creating employment opportunities.
Earlier, the Director of CERUD, Mr. Balogun Musibau, welcomed the participants and commended the Governor for his continued support for programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of Lagos residents.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to remain committed to the training and utilise the knowledge gained to achieve financial independence.
The practical sessions were facilitated by Dura Complete Natural Skincare, with participants receiving hands-on training in the production of various household chemical products.
The training provided the beneficiaries with technical knowledge to venture into small-scale manufacturing and entrepreneurship.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Aishat Adekanmbi and Abdulrahman Aisha expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the opportunity, describing the programme as life-changing.
They said the skills acquired would enable participants to develop multiple sources of income, establish businesses and contribute meaningfully to the economic development of Lagos State.
