Lagos Assembly to Inspect Projects Across 57 LGAs, LCDAs
The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development has announced plans to commence an extensive inspection of projects executed across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The oversight exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 22, 2026, as part of the Assembly’s constitutional mandate to promote accountability, transparency and efficient service delivery at the grassroots level.
Chairman of the committee, Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde, said the inspection would enable lawmakers to physically assess ongoing and completed projects, determine the extent of their execution and evaluate their impact on residents.
According to him, the exercise is also intended to ensure that public funds allocated for developmental projects are judiciously utilised and deliver value to communities.
Babatunde noted that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and play a vital role in providing essential services and infrastructure.
He stressed that projects undertaken by councils must conform to approved standards and address the genuine needs of residents.
The lawmaker clarified that the inspection is not designed to witch-hunt any local government administration but is aimed at strengthening good governance, promoting institutional accountability and encouraging prudent management of public resources.
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that enhance grassroots development, strengthen local governance systems and improve the quality of life of Lagos residents.
The inspection will cover major developmental projects, including road construction and rehabilitation, drainage infrastructure, healthcare facilities, educational projects, markets and other community-based interventions implemented by local councils.
The oversight tour is expected to span all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
