HOPE Programme: Lagos Expands Reach with Logistics Upgrade
The Lagos State Government has distributed operational vehicles to support the implementation of the World Bank-backed HOPE Programme across key sectors in the state.
The initiative is aimed at improving service delivery, strengthening accountability and enhancing monitoring activities under the programme, particularly in governance, primary healthcare and basic education.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, said logistics play a critical role in sustaining government interventions.
“The procurement of these operational vehicles is a deliberate step towards deepening the efficiency and reach of the World Bank HOPE Programme. Effective monitoring and evaluation are central to sustaining the gains we have recorded so far, and these assets will significantly enhance field operations, data collection, and supervisory functions across the three key sectors,” he said.
George explained that the ministry, as the coordinating agency for the programme, remains focused on strengthening institutional capacity, promoting transparency and ensuring data-driven decision-making.
He added that the vehicles would improve field operations and support better oversight, ultimately translating into improved outcomes for residents.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Olayinka Ojo, formally handed over the vehicles to beneficiary agencies.
Among the recipients was Ibrahim Mustapha, who received keys on behalf of the health sector, alongside other implementing bodies.
The HOPE Programme, supported by the World Bank, is designed to strengthen governance systems and improve human capital development in line with the state’s THEMES+ development agenda.
