Teacher, Two Students Escape Death in Onipanu Road Crash
Two students of Lagos State Model Junior College, Igbonla in Epe, alongside their teacher, narrowly escaped death in a road accident that occurred in the Onipanu area of Lagos State.
Echonews gathered that the incident happened around 6pm on Tuesday and involved two vehicles travelling at high speed along the expressway.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the crash involved a Honda Accord and a Suzuki Alto.
The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, explained that the impact forced one of the vehicles off its lane into the opposite carriageway, resulting in significant damage to both cars.
According to him, the Honda Accord had one occupant, while the Suzuki Alto conveyed a teacher and two students of the college.
Despite the severity of the collision, no fatalities were recorded, and all occupants escaped without serious injuries.
However, the two students, identified as Animashaun Ridwan and Ogunbamowo Michael, both in JSS 2, reportedly complained of head and eye discomfort. They were attended to by emergency responders, stabilised, and given first aid before being handed over to their parents.
The teacher involved in the accident, Mr Joseph, a Basic Technology instructor, was also safely evacuated from the scene.
Emergency officials confirmed that the victims were promptly rescued, while the damaged Suzuki Alto was towed off the road to prevent further obstruction. Both vehicles have since been handed over to the police for further investigation.
Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and avoid excessive speed, warning that reckless driving continues to pose serious risks to lives and property.
He emphasised the need for road users to prioritise safety at all times to prevent avoidable accidents across the state.
