Guard In Custody Over Alleged Defilement

A 19-year-old gateman, Israel Mendy, has been held in custody following accusations of rape and defilement of his neighbour’s daughter.
During Mendy’s trial at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday, the police prosecutor, Adegoke Ademigbuji, held that the accused commited the offence at his residence in Folarin Street, Badore area on Ajah, on February 6, thereby contravening the laws of Lagos State.
Ademigbuji mentioned that the defendant lured the child into his room under the pretext of sending her to her brother, but forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court ordered Mendy’s remand in Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos ordering that he should he be kept in custody until April 9 pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
