A tanker fire on Monday caused heavy traffic congestion around the T-Junction inward Temu–Epe area of Lagos State, forcing motorists to divert to alternative routes.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene to manage the situation.

According to the agency, firefighters were already on ground battling the blaze, while traffic officials worked to control vehicular movement in the affected area.

“There’s a burning tanker at T-Junction inward Temu–Epe but nothing to worry about as firefighters are already on ground to put out the fire. LASTMA and Federal Road Safety Corps officers are also on ground to ensure free vehicular movement,” the agency stated.

As a result of the incident, vehicles including trailers, tankers, tricycles and motorcycles were redirected through alternative routes while officials maintained order along the corridor.

Fire service personnel were later seen in a follow-up update successfully extinguishing the blaze, although the tanker was reportedly completely destroyed by the fire.

Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the incident as of the time of filing this report.

LASTMA urged motorists to remain calm and comply with traffic directives while emergency teams continue to monitor and secure the area.
