Chief Imam of Shasha Commends Alimosho Chairman for Prompt Action on Road Safety

The Chief Imam of Shasha Central Mosque, Sheikh Barrister Ya’kub Adebayo As’Shashawy, has commended the Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, for his prompt and people-focused response to a long-standing road safety concern in the community.
The commendation was made on Saturday, 17 January 2026, during a symposium at Shasha Central Mosque, which Sheikh Ya’kub organised to clarify facts and dispel misconceptions surrounding a newly passed tax law.
Addressing community members, scholars, and stakeholders, the Islamic cleric and legal practitioner emphasised the importance of recognising leaders who deliver tangible results.
“We employ those in government to work for us, so accountability is non-negotiable. However, when a public officer meets the expectations of the people, it is only fair to publicly appreciate such efforts and pray for him,” he said.
The praise followed the recent construction of speed breakers along the busy Shasha Road, particularly around the Moshalasi Bus Stop, directly in front of the mosque. Sheikh Ya’kub noted that the road, a major artery connecting key parts of the community, had long been plagued by reckless driving and excessive speeding, leading to accidents involving pedestrians, motorcyclists, and children.
He recalled a tragic incident in which three young girls were hit by a speeding vehicle, leaving them with multiple injuries, some permanent scars, and in certain cases, fatalities.
According to the Imam, efforts to address the hazard during the tenure of the previous Chairman, Hon. Jelili Sulaimon, yielded no concrete results despite repeated petitions and official letters from the Office of the Chief Imam.
“The narrative changed with the assumption of office by Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson. When the matter was presented to him, he promised that within two months, the speed breakers would be constructed. True to his word, he matched promise with action,” Sheikh Ya’kub said.
The newly installed speed breakers have significantly reduced speeding, enhancing safety for worshippers, residents, and other road users in the area.
The Chief Imam concluded by urging other public office holders to emulate Hon. Johnson’s proactive leadership, highlighting that responsive governance is key to building trust between leaders and the communities they serve.
