Lagos APC Vows to Stop Opposition Rigging in Future Elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to prevent any attempts by opposition parties to rig future elections in Nigeria.
Rejecting claims that the ruling party was solely responsible for alleged irregularities in the 2023 general elections, APC cited a recent independent statistical study from Pan-Atlantic University. The analysis, conducted as part of a Data Science master’s thesis, reviewed results from over 123,000 polling units nationwide and found that electoral anomalies were not exclusive to any single party.
According to APC spokesman Seye Oladejo, the study revealed that Labour Party strongholds, particularly in the South-East, had the highest concentration of statistically significant anomalies. Lagos State recorded an anomaly rate of 2.3%, compared with higher rates in Anambra (24.9%), Enugu (16.7%), and Imo (10.9%). The report also noted a suspicious number of “perfect scores” in Labour Party areas, suggesting unusual voting patterns.
Oladejo emphasised that the findings challenge narratives blaming the federal government or the APC for election malpractice. He added that irregularities in 2023 appeared to follow “opportunity rather than ideology,” and some parties alleging rigging may themselves have benefited from such practices.
While acknowledging that the 2023 election was neither entirely fraudulent nor fully free of irregularities, the APC said that subtle forms of malpractice require closer scrutiny ahead of future polls. The Lagos APC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s electoral integrity, supporting reforms such as independent audits, real-time result transmission, enhanced INEC technical capacity, and prosecution of offenders, regardless of party affiliation.
