Rep. Babajimi Benson, Member of the House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, on Saturday, December 13, carried out another round of inspection visits to ongoing road construction projects across the constituency, reaffirming his commitment to infrastructure development and improved living conditions for residents.
The inspection tour, undertaken in the company of members of the iCare Foundation, party leaders and other key stakeholders, commenced at Solebo Estate, where five internal roads are currently being reconstructed simultaneously. The intervention is aimed at enhancing mobility, improving safety and restoring the estate—one of Ikorodu’s foremost residential areas—to its former status through a comprehensive upgrade of its road network.
The federal lawmaker and his entourage also inspected the ongoing 7.5-kilometre Agbede–Ita Oluwo Road project, which was flagged off in late September. Rep. Benson expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the project, noting that the positive feedback and appreciation from residents were encouraging.
He described the Agbede Road as a long-awaited intervention that would significantly improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges, attract investments and stimulate economic activities across the benefiting communities.
According to Rep. Benson, the road projects reflect the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritises people-centred development, inclusive growth and the delivery of infrastructure that adds tangible value to everyday life.
He also appreciated party leaders and stakeholders across Ikorodu Division who accompanied the inspection team from one project site to another, stressing that collective effort remains key to rewriting Ikorodu’s development narrative through roads that connect people and unlock future opportunities.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, acknowledged the roles of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Lagos State Government in providing an enabling policy environment that supports collaboration and effective service delivery across all levels of government.
Similarly, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun of the Lagos State House of Assembly commended Rep. Benson’s dedication to the development of Ikorodu, assuring residents that the state government remains committed to complementing federal interventions with additional infrastructure projects.
The Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Government, Hon. (Chief) Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, expressed appreciation for the construction and linkage of five roads within his council area, noting that improved connectivity would boost commercial activities, reduce travel stress and enhance living standards.
On his part, the Mayor of Ikorodu North LCDA, Mayor Ameen Olawale Apanishile, described the Agbede Road project as long overdue, adding that its construction would bring lasting relief to residents, open up the area and accelerate social and economic development.
Speaking on behalf of community leaders, the Chairman of the Ikorodu North LCDA Community Development Committee, Prince Ogunbanwo Adeniran, praised the federal lawmaker and other stakeholders for prioritising grassroots needs. He disclosed that the road projects connect no fewer than nine communities, significantly improving access and interaction.
He added that the enhanced road network would shorten travel time, ease movement, improve access to markets and essential services, and drive overall growth. Prince Ogunbanwo reaffirmed the support of host communities for the projects and called for sustained collaboration to ensure proper maintenance and long-term benefits.
Rep. Benson was accompanied on the inspection tour by members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye (Ikorodu I) and Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (Ikorodu II); the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje; and the chairmen of Ikorodu Local Government, Ikorodu North LCDA, Ikorodu West LCDA and Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA — Prince Adedayo Abdullateef Ladega, Mayor Ameen Olawale Apanishile, Hon.
