Chairman of Badagry LG, Babatunde Hunpe has backed the Lagos state government and local government to collaborate together to ensure public awareness on environmental sanitation to residents across the communities.

Hunpe, joined fellow Conference 57 chairmen at a sensitization forum on waste management organized by the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

The event, held in Ikeja, brought together council chairmen from across the state and key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab as well as other cabinet members, permanent secretaries, and critical environmental stakeholders.

Lending his voice as a former Special Adviser on Environment to the Governor of Lagos State, Hunpe drew from his experience to emphasize the crucial role of local governments in sustaining environmental reforms, noting that effective waste management depends on synergy between state initiatives and grassroots execution.

He further noted that amid growing concerns over carbon emissions, waste disposal, and flooding, there is a need for a stronger state and local government collaboration. He added that his administration has intensified environmental sanitation efforts to keep Badagry clean and safe.

Hunpe emphasized the importance of public awareness, stricter waste regulation enforcement, and stronger PSP collaboration to improve waste management, while urging citizen participation and climate-conscious practices, affirming that a clean city begins with an informed and responsible citizenry.
