Sanitation officers from the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development have commended the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Mr. Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, for his administration’s proactive and sustained commitment to environmental health, pest control, and refuse management.
The commendation came during a recent environmental inspection exercise led by Sanitarian Akindele Abolade, who praised the council for setting a remarkable standard in environmental hygiene and disease prevention.
He noted that Mushin Local Government has become a model for other local councils in Lagos State through consistent fumigation and responsive sanitation efforts.
Abolade further emphasized the importance of regular fumigation, stating that the process should be carried out at least four times a year to curb the spread of communicable diseases and safeguard public health.
He acknowledged that the Mushin environmental team has demonstrated a clear understanding of preventive measures that ensure the well-being of residents and traders alike.
Also speaking during the inspection, the Head of the Department of Environment, Sanitarian Taiwo Awonuga, revealed that the council is set to commence its last-quarter fumigation exercise across all major markets in Mushin.
He stressed that market areas are critical to public health and commended the Chairman for his quick intervention whenever environmental challenges arise.
Awonuga noted that the council’s timely actions have helped prevent potential outbreaks such as Lassa fever, adding that environmental monitoring and pest control under the Aruwe administration have become both structured and effective.
Similarly, the Council Manager lauded Aruwe’s leadership style, describing him as a visionary administrator who understands the direct link between cleanliness and community well-being.
According to him, the Lagos State Government has consistently recognized Mushin Local Government for “doing the needful” in promoting a cleaner and safer environment.
In his response, Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to maintaining a healthy and sustainable Mushin, noting that environmental management remains central to his development agenda.
“Mushin is a market hub,” he said. “This administration is putting things right. We invited the State officials, and together we’re ensuring environmental orderliness and the health of our people.”
The visiting team toured several markets within the local government and expressed satisfaction with the overall level of cleanliness, effective waste disposal systems, and ongoing fumigation efforts.
They encouraged the council to maintain its proactive measures, conduct periodic fumigations, and continue its awareness campaigns to keep Mushin clean and disease-free.
Under Aruwe’s leadership, Mushin’s environmental transformation stands as a testament to the power of consistent sanitation efforts, one that has not gone unnoticed by both residents and state authorities alike.
