The Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, Hon. Omo’ba Adeola Alimot Adetoro, has officially kicked off the Eti-Osa Canal Rehabilitation, Environmental Cleaning, and Flood Control Project — a landmark initiative designed to restore waterways, enhance sanitation, and safeguard communities across the coastal area.
Launched on October 11, 2025, the project reflects Hon. Adetoro’s proactive leadership and commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Eti-Osa. The initiative addresses years of environmental neglect, poor waste management, and urban encroachment that have worsened flash flooding across several densely populated neighbourhoods.
Under the project, BIOGOLD Nigeria Limited, a reputable environmental engineering and consultancy firm, has been contracted to lead the rehabilitation efforts — including canal desilting, dredging, and community sensitisation campaigns. The company has already fully mobilised to sites, deploying heavy-duty machinery and technical experts to ensure efficient and timely delivery.
Key flood-prone locations currently benefiting from the intervention include Gbar-Aro in Mayegun, the Osapa–Agungi axis, the Femi-Okunnu to Igbokushu corridor, and Lekki Phase 1’s Adewunmi Street Bridge. These areas were strategically selected based on their vulnerability to flooding, population density, and socio-economic significance.
Speaking on the importance of the project, Hon. Adetoro reaffirmed her administration’s vision to “tackle the root causes of flooding through both structural reform and behavioural change.” She emphasised that canal expansion, regular cleaning, and public enlightenment remain essential to achieving lasting environmental protection and urban renewal.
The project’s objectives extend beyond flood control — focusing also on improved sanitation, community health, and infrastructure protection. It is a flagship component of the Environmental Sustainability and Urban Renewal Pillar of Hon. Adetoro’s administration, aimed at promoting responsible waste management and strengthening collaboration between residents, government, and private sector partners.
As BIOGOLD’s teams continue clearing canals and restoring natural drainage flow, Eti-Osa residents have welcomed the initiative as a timely intervention that promises relief from years of recurrent flooding and property loss.
With transparency, accountability, and community inclusion at its core, Hon. Adeola Adetoro’s administration is positioning Eti-Osa as a model for environmental leadership and local government excellence in Lagos State, where sustainability and development go hand in hand.
