Showtime Bowl XIII Week Three Delivers Electrifying Drama
By Saheed Afolabi
Week Three of the Showtime Bowl Series XIII delivered yet another round of action, energy, and electrifying football at the Showtime Arena, Lekki, proving once again why this is Africa’s biggest stage for flag football.
Panthers Sports continued their fearsome march, crushing Lagos Alpha Flag Football 41–0 in a flawless performance that kept them top of the standings and undefeated this season.
The Panthers’ ruthless efficiency has turned them into early title favourites, blending teamwork, lightning offense, and rock-solid defense.
Right behind them, the Warriors Flag Football last season’s champions reminded everyone why they wear the crown. With a commanding 38–0 victory over Greenbacks Flag Football, they jumped to second place, signaling that their championship mentality is still alive and roaring.
The Lagos Athletic Knights, despite securing a solid 19–7 win against the Lagos Raptors, slipped to third after the Warriors’ superior points tally. Meanwhile, Ikan Sports battled hard for a 23–13 win over the Mainland Long Horns, maintaining their grip on fourth place. Interestingly, the Long Horns, even in defeat, moved up to seventh a small but promising sign of progress.
The Lagos Rebels put up another commanding display, overpowering Lekki Braves 30–12, locking down fifth place, while the Braves remain bottom with no wins to their name. Greenbacks dropped to ninth, and the Raptors stayed eighth after another rough week.
Fans React “This Is the Lagos Super Bowl!
The atmosphere at Showtime Arena was electric as fans poured their passion into every play.
“The Panthers are unstoppable. Every game feels like watching professionals in the NFL,” said Tunde Olayemi, a first-time spectator who promised to return next Sunday.
“The Warriors are still the team to beat. That defense is pure fire,” added Amaka Chukwu, a die-hard Showtime fan who came decked in the team’s signature red and black colors.
Social media also lit up after the games. On X (formerly Twitter), user @FlagFootballNaija wrote:
“Showtime Bowl XIII is raising the bar for sports entertainment in Nigeria. Music, food, and football it’s a Lagos weekend ritual now!”
Even abroad, the buzz is growing. Fans from the U.S. and the U.K. have started streaming games live, calling Showtime “the African Flag Football Dream.”
The Road Ahead
With three weeks gone and the Panthers leading the pack, attention now shifts to Week 4 where the Warriors will aim to close the gap, and the Braves desperately seek redemption.
As one fan aptly put it while leaving the arena:
“This isn’t just flag football anymore this is a movement. This is Showtime.”
