As the rainy season gathers momentum, the Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), has called on residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse into gutters, canals, and other water channels.
Hamzat raised the alarm over the growing risk of flooding in parts of the community, stressing that blocked drainage systems caused by improper waste disposal are largely to blame.
“As the rains set in, we must all play our part. Do not litter the gutters or water channels,” he urged. “The ‘E’ in our HEEDS+ Agenda stands for Environment, and this is why we are committed to ensuring a cleaner, safer, and flood-free Ifako-Ijaiye. I assure you that my administration will continue to do everything within its power to maintain proper drainage, strengthen waste management, and protect lives and property.”
The council boss emphasized that protecting the environment is not solely the duty of government but a collective responsibility. He called on community leaders, youth groups, and market associations to intensify sensitization on the dangers of indiscriminate waste disposal and the importance of maintaining environmental discipline.
Prince Hamzat reaffirmed that under the HEEDS+ Agenda, environmental sustainability will remain central to building a healthier and more resilient Ifako-Ijaiye.
