Two Suspects Arrested For Stealing Car Battery

The police have arrested two men in Lagos over allegations of stealing car batteries valued at N12.7 million.
The duo, Rufai Hammed and Isaq Muhammad, were arraigned at the Badagry Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on a two-count charge of felony and theft.
During the sitting, the Prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, mentioned that Hammed, 33, and Muhammed, 25, committed the offences on August 10, at about 2:30 a.m., at Iyana-Era area of Ijanikin in Lagos.
Edet said that the defendants stole 174 cartons of Tiger head super batteries from a stationary truck with registration number XZ 118 KJA valued at N12,702,000 belonging to the complainant, Ekene Michael.
The Prosecutor added that the offence contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015,” he said.
The suspects, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in the like sum.
Layeni ordered that one of the sureties must provide evidence of being an entrepreneur as part of the bail conditions before adjoining the case until September 11.
