LASPARK Conducts Tree Planting Initiative In Ikorodu

The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency, LASPARK, has sensitized residents in Ikorodu on the importance of planting trees to aid a cleaner and healthier environment in the area.
LASPARK during the event held during the weekend relayed that the event was convened as a new strategy of planting trees within residential estates to improve the survival rate of trees planted across the state.
The agency disclosed that it became neccessary to extend its greening efforts to more estates across in the area o ensure that tree planting is not just widespread but impactful.
According to the General Manager of LASPARK, Adetoun Popoola, who conducted thr exercise at Benson Olusola Housing Estate in Ibeshe area of the community,
Popoola noted that several estates in the metropolis such as Banana Island, Victoria Garden City (VGC), Epe Alaro City, and Dolphin Estate, have significantly benefited from the campaign, with impressive tree growth and survival rates recorded in the areas.
The agency’s manager who stated that tree planting contributes to a more sustainable environment urged residents to embrace tree planting not as a once-in-a-year event but as an ongoing lifestyle and a civic responsibility.
“Planting trees offers numerous benefits, restoring our natural environment, mitigating climate change, enhancing air quality, and promoting sustainable development,” she said.
” Beyond aesthetics, trees are essential for biodiversity and ecosystem protection.
“Our communities and organisations are urged to commemorate special occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, or memorials, by planting trees. This way, we not only celebrate meaningful moments but also contribute to building a greener and healthier Lagos.”
