The Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims of the tragic auto crash that occurred along the Ijebu-Ode/Epe road on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
The accident claimed the life of Mr. Adeyeye Adewuyi Abel, a teacher at Pobuna Junior Secondary Grammar School, Epe, and left several others injured.
The teachers were reportedly returning from a staff audit exercise organized by the Lagos State Government when their convoy was struck by an articulated vehicle driving against traffic. The collision involved the lead bus in the convoy.
In his statement, Mr. Alli-Balogun mourned the loss of Mr. Abel and described his death as a great loss to the education sector.
He also assured that the state government is providing the necessary support to the injured teachers and the bereaved family.
Two critically injured teachers have been transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for specialized care, while others are receiving treatment at the Epe General Hospital.
“We pray that the indelible memories of Mr. Adeyeye Adewuyi Abel will remain a blessing to us all. May Allah (SWT) grant his family the fortitude to bear this loss and rest his soul in peace,” the commissioner stated.
The accident has sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
