National Theatre Renamed After Wole Soyinka Centre For Culture And Creative Arts

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gifted Professor Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde popularly known as Wole Soyinka the National theatre On his 90th birthday, in tribute to his significant contribution and to celebrate his remarkable literary achievement and also his unwavering dedication to the value of human dignity and justice. The Art Theatre is situated at Iganmu, Surulere,Lagos.

Wole Soyinka was the first African to win the Nobel Literature Prize in 1986 and having to get the National Art Theatre named after him is a commendable move by the Nigeria President.

The theatre was formally known as National Art Theatre and after being named after Wole Soyinka it was newly named as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.

President Tinubu lauded Soyinka achievements and remarkable feat in the World.

“I am pleased to join admirers around the world in celebrating the 90th birthday of Nigeria’s iconic son and the world renowned legend.”

In a post on X formally known as Twitter, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu took to his page to celebrate and praised the Bankers committee and stake holders for transforming the National Arts Theatre.

The renovation of the National Arts Theatre is expected to be completed in four months because the air conditioning (HVAC) system, Ventilation, heating, upgrading fire safety stand’s and modernizing power, water supply and sewage.
