The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has held a trial proceeding against one Augustine Ekerette over allegations of defiling a 17-year-old girl.
At the court in Ikeja on Monday, Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded the suspect at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till November 11.
Ekerette was arraigned on one-count charge of defilement brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
However, the State Counsel, Abimbola Abolade, told the court that the suspect committed the offence between 2020 and 2023 at Plot 124, Ogunla GRA in Ikorodu, Lagos.
Abolade mentioned that the defendant consistently defiled the girl by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
