Nigerian music star Ayodeji Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, has shed light on why he prefers to live a quiet life and keeps his achievements off social media.

In a recent podcast interview, the Grammy-winning artist opened up about his personal reasons for maintaining a low profile, attributing it to his humble beginnings and the lessons he learned from his family.

Wizkid recounted his childhood, growing up in a large family of 11 children, with four siblings from his mother.

He shared how he and his siblings often went without meals, a struggle that has deeply influenced his perspective on life and fame. “I came from the bottom, I know what it feels like not to have anything. There was a time in my life when I had never even had breakfast; it was just lunch or maybe dinner,” he revealed during the interview.

The singer explained that these early experiences have kept him grounded, shaping his decision to avoid flaunting his wealth and success online.

For Wizkid, these hardships have made him appreciate his journey without the need to showcase it publicly.

The interview sparked mixed reactions from netizens, with some expressing skepticism about his claims of a difficult upbringing. Twitter user @ugo_shib commented, “And you called that from the bottom?when lunch was sure for him and maybe dinner.”

Others, however, defended Wizkid, acknowledging the hard work that has brought him to where he is today. @Justvibes31 stated, “Man really worked hard for what he’s enjoying now. He will always remain my favorite ever.”

Some users contrasted Wizkid’s story with other artists who have publicly discussed their challenging backgrounds. @TygaOfLagos wrote, “Wizkid didn’t come from the bottom sha!! Ppl wey fit talk dah tin na Olamide,” while @Jeroski0 added, “Wizkid never came from the bottom, even if his father was not as rich as Davido’s father, they were comfortable and his father was 100% capable to provide for them. If any artiste wants to talk about coming from the bottom, that should be Olamide.”

Despite the differing opinions, Wizkid’s decision to live quietly and avoid the trappings of celebrity culture continues to resonate with many, solidifying his reputation as a grounded and focused artist.
