Aramide Tito, a 45-year-old man, is on trial over accusation of drenching his stepson with hot water.
Tito was arraigned at the Badagry Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
At the court, the suspect was said to have commited the offence on the 11-year-old victim on August 17 at about 11pm in Oke Ogbe, Atura, Badagry.
Police Prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, said that the defendant also subjected the victim to severe abuse, including food starvation.
Okuoimose said, “The suspect deprived the young boy of food for three consecutive days before dousing him with hot water while he slept.
“The boy suffered significant injuries as a result. The defendant’s actions were part of a deliberate attempt to murder the child.
“These actions contravene Sections 135, 245, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which address indecent treatment, assault, and attempted murder, respectively’, the prosecutor said.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties of like sum. The sureties were mandated to be gainfully employed.
The case was adjourned till September 25.
