The Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to the Governor, spearheaded by Mr Atewogboye Adebanji, SSA on Grassroots Sports Development, made a strategic visit to the Olympic Skate Grounds to ensure that Lagos State remains at the forefront of skateboarding development, especially in the lead-up to the second edition of Skate Lagos.

The delegation, driven by a commitment to excellence and innovation, aimed to gather valuable information and insights that would enhance the overall experience for participants in the upcoming Skate Lagos event, slated to be a part of the Olympic Games initiatives in the year ahead.

Skibanj, addressing the tour group during their excursion to the Olympic Skate Grounds, underlined the critical role that cooperation would play in advancing the skateboarding culture in Lagos State.

He underscored the necessity for a unified effort, with both the public and private sectors working in tandem, to construct a well-functioning skateboarding environment in Lagos.

The team, being keen observers, took note of the best practices in skate park design, safety measures, and community outreach strategies that they encountered during their visit, all of which would prove vital in shaping the future of skateboarding in Lagos.

Skibanj, during the tour of the Olympic Skate Grounds, expressed his team’s enthusiasm and drive to elevate the sport of skateboarding in Lagos, staying true to the vision of Gov Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his commitment to grassroots sports development.

The visit to the Olympic Skate Grounds served as a precursor to the upcoming second edition of Skate Lagos, which promises to be a larger and more impressive event than its predecessor, featuring top-tier skaters from across the globe, exhilarating competitions, and insightful workshops.

In keeping with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s goal to transform Lagos into a premier destination for sports excellence and youth empowerment, this initiative is expected to make a notable impact on the community, inspiring and empowering young athletes to pursue their skateboarding dreams.

“This visit has been highly informative and thought-provoking for our efforts to build a robust skateboarding ecosystem in Lagos,” he said.

By leveraging the expertise and resources gained from this tour, the Senior Special Assistants are poised to deliver a successful and impactful Skate Lagos event, contributing to the growth of skateboarding in Nigeria.
