Police operatives attached to Maroko division, Lekki, Lagos are prosecuting a woman for allegely assaulting a police Inspector.
Vivian Nwachukwu, 34, was accused of slapping the police identified as Inspector Yekini Momodu, and shoving him to the ground during an altercation.
At the Igbosere Magistates’ Court in Ebute-Metta Lagos, the Police claimed that the defendant also slapped one Mufutau Ayodele, using her fist on him which caused blood gushing out profusely from his mouth.
Nwachukwu was also alleged to have damaged Ayodele’s Infinix Hot 12 Promax phone estimated to be of N100,000 value.
The Police further said that the rambunctious incident led to concerned residents sending a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Police Division who swiftly sent men to the scene. The policemen arrested Nwachukwu and restored order in the area.
Following an investigation by Inspector Elizabeth Ekanem, the defendant was arrainged on a four-count charge bordering on assault occasioning harm and malicious damage.
Police prosecuting counsel, ASP Isaac Ameru, told the court in a charge marked T/17/2024 that the defendant and one other still at large committed the offence on 14, April 2024 at 5, Dideolu Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos
Ameru said that the offences committed were punishable under Sections 411, 134, 173 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Thereafter, Magistrate Emeka Opara, granted her N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Opara adjourned the case till 10, May 2024 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at Kirikiri Correctional Facility till she meets up with the bail terms.
