LASUTECH Lecturer Bags PhD With Farmer-Herdsmen Thesis

Taiwo Okeowo, a lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, Lagos State University of Technology (LASUTECH), has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.

The accomplishment was marked by the successful defense of his thesis titled “Framing of Farmers and Herdsmen Conflicts in Selected Nigerian Newspapers” at the School of Post-graduate Studies, Lagos State University (LASU), on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Expressing his joy and inviting others to celebrate with him, Okeowo shared, “Celebrate with me as I have just been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mass Communication with a thesis titled ‘Framing of Farmers and Herdsmen Conflicts in Selected Nigerian Newspapers’ at Lagos State University (Ojo).”

His thesis was under the guidance of the esteemed Professor Jide Jimoh, with Professor Sunday Oloruntoba from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) serving as the external examiner.

In an interview with our reporter Nurudeen Adebayo, Okeowo shared his experience and the journey that led to this accomplishment. He expressed gratitude and fulfillment, stating, “I feel grateful and happy for this new height. I went through rigorous stress to finish on time, undergoing the pre-field, field, and post-field processes.”

Okeowo sees his achievement not just as a personal milestone but as an addition to the Department of Mass Communication, contributing to the educational landscape and knowledge base in Nigeria.

As he concludes this academic chapter, the new Ph.D. holder envisions a positive impact on his students and the broader community.
