Police arrest storekeeper for stealing cartons of drinks worth N2.1m

A storekeeper, James Oluwaseun, has been charged to court for allegedly stealing cartons of drinks valued at N2.1million.
The police arraigned the 40-year-old at the court on the charge of stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the Ikeja High Court that the defendant committed the offence in October and November 2023 at Yotrad Nig. Ltd., Ojodu, Lagos
Akeem said that when the store was audited, it was discovered that there were 211 cartons of Trophy, seven cartons of Goldberg and four of Heineken left unaccounted for all in care of the defendant.
The Prosecutor also alleged that seven cartons of Maltina drinks and a carton of stout were also missing at the store which were not accounted for by the accused.
Akeem stated that the suspect not being able to account for the drinks totalling N2.1 million is a case of theft which contravenes section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistate Bola Osunsanmi who presided over the case granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till January 24 for mention.
